The Orient has been calling for three years, and I’m finally picking up the phone. I don’t know where I’ll be yet, but the plan is to return this autumn. I am exploring a couple of options right now. In the meantime, I’ll be returning to Utah for the summer to spend some quality time with family before going back abroad and to escape the extreme Arizona heat.
That means I’ll be leaving the fantastic employ of the Frank Lloyd Wright Foundation and the privilege of sharing one of the masterpieces of America’s greatest architect. I’ve loved my time at Taliesin West and having an insider experience of Wright’s desert camp as well as other architectural treasures because of my association with the foundation. I am so grateful they took a chance on me and let me split my time between tours and development.
I’m excited to get back to the simple way of life, the history and culture, and the people of Asia. I never thought I would say that before spending a year there before. I have big plans for new adventures when I return too including the “floating mountains” of Zhangjiajie, the rainbow formations of Danxia, and the ancient structures of the Hakka people known as Tolou. I’m excited to bring you along for my China adventures as before.
But, before China I’ve got a whole summer of adventures in the Beehive State. Here’s a list of expected adventures over the next four months.
- Canyonlands National Park
- Great Basin National Park
- This is the Place Heritage Park (where I’ll be working)
- Tracy Aviary
- Antelope Island – Frary Peak (I’ve got to finish the hike I didn’t finish last time I was there)
- Golden Spike National Historic Site
- Natural History Museum of Utah (this is new)
- Camp Floyd (didn’t know last time I was there that a great great grandpa helped build the buildings there)
- Payson Temple (brand new)
- Springville Museum of Art
- Ensign Peak (hiked it many times, but never shared the experience or pics)
- Capitol Reef National Park
Excitement begins this week as I ceremoniously graduate from Grand Canyon University with a Masters of Science in Leadership. Lots of family will be in town and I’ll be doing some fun things with them. Then, next week I’ll be making my way to Utah via a few scenic stops. Follow along for the adventures, and remember – adventure is out there, so go have one!
